Spring is just around the corner, and in anticipation of this arrival we have created a series of workshops to get you inspired for the warmer weather and create magic in your garden.  Remember it doesn’t matter whether you have land, or a small deck, you can begin your backyard journey and grow food.  All of these workshops except for the Sustainable Tour will be held at Pretty Beach on the Central Coast.  If you would like to host one of these workshops in your area, please contact Melissa directly.

 Sustainable Living Core Four Backyard Essentials Workshop

Sunday 3rd September – 10am – 4pm

This workshop is jammed packed with everything you need to get started, re-start, and prepare for the coming months…You will learn everything about our core four backyard essentials for living more sustainably and making a positive impact on your environment.  It doesn’t matter whether you are advanced in your learning or a beginner, this workshop is perfect for any level of learning.  It is hands on we will be making a compost bin, and worm farm, plus putting together a recycled no dig garden….

Keeping Backyard Chickens –  The chicken has amazing credentials. What other backyard animal, is a composter, weed controller, pest controller, creator of natural fertiliser and food production all in one? From humble beginnings, the backyard chicken is known as micro livestock pet. In fact it is the only sustainable backyard pet.  The workshops are informative and vast in the fundamentals of keeping backyard chickens, cover topics such as Council Regulations, Animal welfare, Health & Safety, Choosing the right breed for you and your family, Point of lay, Housing, Feeding, Egg handling, Health and Sustainability.  
Composting and Worm Farming – In the Composting and Worm Farming Workshop you will learn about: How to create wonderful, rich compost, the basis of any great garden. A number of methods of composting, including a practical session creating a compost heap from freely obtainable resources. Worm farming and how to use “worm tea” and “worm castings”. How to create your own worm farm from “waste” products.
Beyond Compost – Create No Dig Gardens Learn how to create a no dig garden and use your compost to create abundance. No dig gardens can be established anywhere, even on concrete surfaces, and are a quick and effective way to create a productive garden, which is water efficient and full of goodness for your plants. Learn about the materials used to create this layered composting garden system.                                                                                 This is a practical workshop with hands on facilitation.

All course materials and handouts will be provided.  Morning tea and a light lunch is also included in the cost of the course.  Please wear light clothing, bring your gardening gloves and wear closed in shoes…

Making Beeswax Wraps Workshop

Saturday 9th September – 10am – 1pm

Have you wanted to kick the habit of using cling wrap? Then homemade beeswax wraps are a great alternative. They be used in place of cling wrap to cover food, keep it fresh, plus they are reusable and can easily be refreshed, if the wax starts to wear thing and they loose their cling.  Join us for this four hour workshop and learn how to make your own beeswax wraps so you can kick the habit all together. This workshop is fun and interactive where you will take home the wraps you get to make and be skilled in making them for your family and friends. The workshop includes morning tea and a light lunch to share afterwards. Plus a take home Beeswax Wrap Kits to continue the joy…

Growing Mushrooms In Coffee Grounds

Sunday 17th September – 10am – 1pm

In this three hours workshop, you will learn the art of growing mushrooms in coffee grounds.  This is an easy, no fuss process, that will make growing healthy fungi easy and fun. It is an informative hands on workshop and where possible you will start the process on the day, making this practical workshop easy to implement growing mushrooms at home.  All the materials, handouts and coffee will be shared on the day, including light refreshments and a shared lunch at the end of the workshop.

Kimbriki Eco House Sustainable Education Tour

Friday 13th October – 8.00am – 3pm

Friday 13th October the bus leaves on an adventure to sit in a workshop with Peter Rutherford from Kimbriki Eco House.  Peter, is beyond inspiring and his talks are never boring.  Filled with insight complete with an encyclopaedia of knowledge, you will walk away from this workshop feeling inspired.  We will then go to a Permaculture Nursery and spend time with Dan from New Leaf, where we will share lunch and refreshments, before heading back to the Central Coast.  Places fill in fast, so be quick to avoid disappointment. The cost of this tour includes all materials and handouts, entry into Kimbriki, and we even include light lunch to share.  Just bring a smile, plenty of water and wear comfortable clothing.

Native Bee Keeping Workshop

Saturday 14th October – 10am – 1pm

In the world of Native Bees, they are known as the Headbangers of the garden and they work their magic as they feed and pollinate, your garden shall grow.  In this workshop you will learn every aspect of attracting and keeping Native Bees in your garden, so they can weave their magic to help your garden grow.  You will learn about the different bee hives, companion planting for bees, and the in’s and out’s of how your garden does flourish with these incredible pollinators.  You will also understand why they are imperative to the continued production of food.  Morning tea provided and a light lunch will be served after the workshop.
